Stand-Down & Stand-Down Defined
STAND-DOWN: a). To go off duty. b). To withdraw from a contest, a position of leadership, or a state of alert or readiness.
STAND-DOWN: One part of the Dept. of Veterans Affairs' efforts to provide services to homeless veterans. Stand-Downs are typically one to three day events providing services to homeless Veterans such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and referrals to a variety of other necessary services, such as housing, employment, and subtance abuse treatment. Stand-Downs are collaborative events, coordinated between local VA's, other government agencies and community agencies who serve the homeless.
The 9th Annual Central NY Veterans Expo held at SUNY Poly in Utica, NY (formerly SUNYIT) is an event that connects veterans and their families directly to area providers. The expo begins with a service fair at 11 am with local and regional agencies and businesses including the VA and many not-for-profit service providers. Special services for homeless veterans are also included. The opening ceremony from 11:50 am - 1:00 pm will include a keynote presentation, "It Takes A Community" - a testimony panel featuring Veteran’s and family members, as they discuss reintegration back into civilian life and the struggles and supports they received through the transitions.

Transportation is available ... There will be a shuttle leaving the CNY Veterans Outreach Center,
726 Washington St., Utica, NY. The shuttle will leave every half hour from the Outraech Center, starting at 11:00 am and the last shuttle back to the Outreach Center will leave the service fair at 3:00 pm. There is also a Utica bus that has a regular route to SUNY Poly. Refer to Route #129 on the schedule.
